Been In A Car Accident: 4 Signs You Should Have Your Car Towed

When you're in a car accident, the first thing you need to do is assess your injuries. If you haven't been injured, or you don't need to be transported to the hospital in an ambulance, you'll want to assess your car. If your car appears to be in the condition to be driven, you might decide to drive yourself home from the accident. However, that might not be your best option. There are times when even minor damage can sideline your car or create a situation where you need to have your car towed to a repair shop. Here are four reasons to have your car towed after an accident.

You're Shaken Up

If your car has sustained damage, and you're thinking of driving yourself home, take some time to assess your own condition. If you can't see any visible injuries, you might think that you're okay to drive. However, that might not be the case. If you're shaking, anxious or feeling even a little dazed, call for a tow truck. Trying to drive while you're shaken up could increase your risk for another car accident.

Your Airbags Deployed

If you've been in a car accident, and the airbags have deployed, don't try to drive home. It might appear that your car sustained minor damage, but airbag deployment can be a sign of something much worse. Not only that, but if you're involved in another accident on the way home, your airbags won't deploy. To reduce the risk, don't drive your car until the airbag can be reinstalled. Tow your car to a local repair shop instead.

Your Doors Won't Latch Right

If your car sustained some minor damage, and you want to drive home from the accident, test the doors. If the doors weren't involved in the accident, they should be able to latch. However, if the doors won't latch, and you can't see any visible side impact damage, there's a good chance that the frame is bent. If that's the case, you shouldn't try to drive your car. Instead, have it towed to a repair shop for inspection.

You Suspect Mechanical Failure

If you've been in a car accident, and you suspect mechanical failure, call for a tow truck right away. Any type of mechanical failure needs to be checked out as soon as possible. Depending on the type of mechanical failure, you may be able to seek legal action against the manufacturer of your car. Using a tow truck service will allow for the proper inspection of your car.
